Things change

Navigating my way around the unknown, and taking inspiration from nature

I’m one of those people who's deeply resistant to change.

I definitely have a tendency towards anxiety, and a big part of anxiety is feeling you can’t control what is ultimately out of your hands, beyond your sphere of influence. That doesn’t mean I’m overbearing or a ‘control freak’: in day to day life things are generally fine. Watching the news or going into a deep dive on the unknown, the ‘what ifs’… well, that’s where my issues lie.

I know that it’s important to keep moving forwards, and that depressed people dwell on the past and anxious ones worry about the future. I do have a toolkit of sorts - things that keep me in the present, that absorb me and allow my mind to float along without anything jarring to bump up against.

But as I get older, I also feel more adventurous. Not the fearlessness of youth; just not caring quite so much what others think, or automatically assuming I’m the problem. I don’t have the time for a lot of superfluous nonsense. So I remove it.

That in itself is a way of embracing change.
